UNDERSTAND THE REEL

What to know before you buy.

Stella SW D is a family of configurations rather than one universal upgrade. Its 4000–6000 choices keep the conversation around casting weight; 8000 and 10000 bring lower-gear options alongside faster retrieves, while the largest spools offer much greater capacity. InfinityXross gearing and a rigid HAGANE body are central to the design. Shimano identifies XX Tough Drag with Heatsink Drag on sizes 14000 and larger. The attraction is a premium offshore platform configured for a specific presentation; the tradeoff is a substantial purchase and maintenance commitment.

Published specifications, not test measurements. Maximum drag is not a recommended fishing setting.

The appeal

  • Twelve listed configurations
  • Size-specific high- and lower-gear choices

The compromise

  • High purchase cost
  • Large sizes are heavy; drag technologies differ by size

Who should consider it?

Dedicated saltwater anglers who already know their line class and preferred presentation.

Buying used? What to check.

Confirm exact generation, retrieve hand, spool, service history, internal corrosion, and all modifications. “Refurbished” needs a named refurbisher and a written description of the work and warranty. A used price is not comparable with a new manufacturer price.

CHOOSE YOUR CONFIGURATION

Sizes & specifications

Compare 8000PG and 8000HG directly: PG has 4.8:1 gearing and 36 in pickup; HG has 5.6:1 and 42 in. Choose capacity and line pickup before considering the prestige of the name.

All 12 configurations listed on the checked US manufacturer product page. Capacities are manufacturer nominal values; actual fill varies by line diameter. Handedness is left unknown where the specification drawer does not state it. No performance testing or current discount is claimed. US technical catalog resolves the shop’s transposed 8000 PG/HG ratio entries; use the linked technical chart for those two configurations.

On a phone, tap a model to open its specifications. On larger screens, scroll across the comparison table. Capacity units and high / low ratios remain as published.
